* ESPN NFL analyst Ryan Clark was fired as part of a round of layoffs. Due to the firing leaking online, Clark was told in the middle of his show, leading to him walking off the set. A number of other journalists were also laid off. Pat McAfee continues to make over $60 million a year.

* The Boston Red Sox stretched their winning streak to 14, going from being below .500 to a postseason wildcard spot. As a fan of another AL East team, I can’t fully approve of the Red Sox, but it’s an impressive run and the type of thing you daydream about when your team is seemingly out of it by July.

* Lynx star Napheesa Collier has been listed as probable for today’s afternoon game, after not having played this season. With the Lynx already at the top of the standings and rookie Olivia Myles playing like a MVP candidate, this could make Minnesota the unstoppable death star of the WNBA.
