The Avocado Weekly Movie Thread (07/21)

Movieacados! I have mentioned many time I take inspiration from the universe and the world around me. And this week I have listened to the universe, or in this case fellow cados. This week I feel both the rhythm and the groove inspired by posts and prompts that get toes tapping heads bopping and fingers snapping, thats right this week I would like to talk about cinematic dancing and/or dancing/dancing revolutions, thanks to the Weekly Video Game Thread for the final inspiration on this.

The thing with dancing in movies is that it can accomplish a lot. First and foremost there is the spectacle of a big or even giant choreographed dance number involving many participants, this got so big that several movies are devoted specifically to this event. Dance can solve your problems and help you work through your emotions, just ask Kevin Bacon. Third we can live vicariously through those on screen, I originally wrote this as a shared experience but realized how little club dancing I have done (though I have a pretty badass Celtic style I can pull off, and pogoing from my punk days was fun although I can only pull off about 3-4 now before my ankles have had enough, jeez I am old enough to remember Batman dancing), appreciating the moves of others that we would like to be able to pull off. And finally, but possibly most importantly as it was one of the inspirations for this prompt, the category of Christopher Walken dancing, which he does… a lot.

Now we crescendo to the big finale, this weeks prompt: What is your favourite dance scene in movies? This is as always open to interpretation of what constitutes a dance, for example there are many martial arts fight scenes coded as dances in action films. Either way, discuss and enjoy.
