This is part of a series of mini-reviews of Paul McCartney’s studio albums, ranked worst to best. (Don’t worry; I’ll keep them short.)

Next in line: Driving Rain.

WHY IT’S BAD: It’s not, really, at least to me. It’s got a sound courtesy of producer David Kahne which is slick and probably too much for most people. It goes on too long, for sure. But there are some classics in there as far as I’m concerned.

BEST SONGS: Lonely Road, the opening rocker; From A Lover To A Friend, a song about falling in love after Linda’s death; the title track (hey, I like it!!); Your Way, a country-tinged song which sounds as if it’s an outtake from the White Album; Heather, an instrumental which is catchy and sweet (pity it’s about who it’s about); Rinse The Raindrops, a ten minute plus jam.

WORST SONGS: Spinning On An Axis and Back In The Sunshine Again are kind of pointless. The rest is just blah.

SAVING GRACE: It’s got a fair number of songs which are keepers, but YMMV.
