Weekly Video Games Thread Goes to America

Happy Monday, folks, and welcome to the Weekly Video Games Thread!

In honor of America’s slightly improbable 250th anniversary, the prompt today is what are your favorite games about America? This doesn’t have to be a in purely literal sense; the header image is the Pokémon universe’s version of New York City and New Jersey, and Pokémon Black & White are very much games about the United States made by non-Americans. To Game Freak, “America” seems to mean racial diversity, large cities, a bitterly divided two-party ideological divide, and an allegory that I swear has to be less about animal rights than segregation and separatism.

Anyway, I’m interested in other takes as well. Maybe for you, it’s the alternate history United States from the likes of Grand Theft Auto or Wolfenstein: The New Colossus. Maybe it’s a small chunk of American history or culture, like Firewatch. Maybe it’s slight and simpler, like EarthBound‘s “Eagleland.” Maybe it’s smaller, or larger, or basic, or threadbare. Whatever the case, I’m looking forward to hearing your examples.

And, as always, what did you play this weekend?
