Welcome to the Movie Club! Today’s movie is Justine Triet’s legal drama Anatomy of a Fall!

Anatomy of a Fall follows the investigation and trial surrounding the death of Samuel Maleski, who is found lying in the snow after having fallen from the top floor balcony of his family’s chateau. His wife, Sandra Voyter, then becomes the immediate suspect, as she was the only other person in the house at the time, with their blind son Samuel being the only other witness.

Anatomy of a Fall first premiered at the Cannes Film Festival on May 21, 2023, winning both the Palm d’Or and Palm Dog Award. It was later released theatrically in France on August 23, 2023, with a staggered international release spread throughout the rest of the year, along with screenings at various international film festivals.1 It was highly acclaimed by critics, earning a 96% on Rotten Tomatoes and multiple other awards, including 5 Academy Award nominations and a win for Best Original Screenplay.2 It was also a box office success, earning $36 million against a budget of $6.7 million.3

- Messi, the dog, was trained for 2 months for the film, teaching him how to keep his tongue out and play dead and lie completely limp, even when being picked up.
- The version of P.I.M.P. in the movie is a cover done by The Bacao Rhythm & Steel Band.
