Movieacados! I am not someone who typically believes in destiny, in point of fact I often tempt the fates that I do not believe in whenever given a fair chance to. But sometimes something happens where I must act in a manner that lines up with ‘destiny’, or in this case coincidence which I believe accounts for most attributions to destiny, but that is another story for another discussion topic. And as coincidence would happen this week we have two big movie openings from two long dormant IPs, so we will take inspiration from this most fortuitous of circumstances and talk about Long Delayed IP entries.

If an IP goes dormant one can surmise it is due to some combination of creative drought and underperformance monetarily. As is the case with Animal Farm. Adapting this for modern audiences must have been difficult and given what I saw in the trailer it looks like this is going to be a loose adaptation, but sometimes those work really well (A Bug’s Life comes to mind in this regard), maybe critically and maybe financially, time will tell on that one. The other wide release related to this is The Devil Wears Prada 2, coming in as a 20 year sequel to the 2006 movie. In the case of a sequel this old, fans of the original hope that it took this long because creators needed proper inspiration to do the original justice. While not as long between entries, I found Prey to be an entry that reinvigorated the Predator franchise with a fun new take that also paid good homage to the original and what made it great. Again time will tell how this Prada sequel is received.

At the end of it all there are many reasons, to remake, reboot, reimagine and all around restart franchises that have gone away for awhile and all we can do as fans of original(s) is hope that the new entries are something we can enjoy. So this weeks prompt is not necessarily easy, but I feel I have built to it well: What is your favourite movie entries that restart IPs after extended Hiatus? Wow, that was a mouthful, but as I can’t think of a better way to word it at the moment, you all get where I am coming from.
