Welcome to the Movie Club! Today’s movie is Rodrigo Garcia’s biblical drama Last Days in the Desert.

Last Days in the Desert stars Ewan McGregor in dual roles as both Yeshua and The Demon in an adaptation of the biblical story of the temptation of Christ. During his fast, Yeshua meets a father, his dying wife and their son, building a home out in the desert, and he struggles to help them while having his faith tested by The Demon.

Last Days in the Desert premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on January 25 2015. That was followed by screenings at a number of festivals before a limited release in the US over a year later on May 16 2016.1 Box office information is rather scarce, with The Numbers reporting a total of only $6,948 in the box office (and another $135,974 in DVD sales) despite the movie having been released in multiple countries.2 It was warmly received by critics though, and currently has a 76% on Rotten Tomatoes.3
