Scott burst through the door and ran to his seat before the bell rang. He took a few deep breathes as he leaned back in his chair. This was not how his morning was supposed to go. First he slept through his alarm, then breakfast was ruined because his mom forgot to buy his favorite juice, and then Stiles forgot to pick him up. Stiles has been driving him to school ever ever since his dirt bike’s engine gave out. At least Scott’s lacrosse training has really been paying off considering he was able to run to school so fast.
Scott looked over to Stiles’ desk ready to give him a piece of his mind, but no one was there. It wasn’t like Stiles to ditch without telling Scott. Glancing around the class, Scott noticed more seats empty than usual.
The intercom began to crackle causing Scott to wince. Was it always this loud?
“Scott McCall, please report to the principal’s office. Scott McCall to the principal’s office.”
Hushed murmurs broke out as the entire class turned to look at Scott. Ignoring the stares, Scott grabbed his bag and rushed out of the class. His mind raced as he walked to the principal’s office. Did something happen to Stiles or his mom? He hasn’t seen her in a while which wasn’t odd considering her nursing hours.
The receptionist ushered Scott to a chair to wait until the principal was ready for him. The door opened and to Scott’s surprise the principal wasn’t alone, the Sheriff was with him.
“Scott, Stiles never came home last night. We found his jeep by the Preserve early this morning but all we could was this,” the Sheriff pulled out a ripped piece of flannel, it was darker than normal. Scott’s nose twitched and he took a deep breath. A metallic tang filled the air and Scott realized the flannel was covered with blood. His stomach sank, he knew this scent.
