The Avocado Weekly Movie Thread (02/24)

Okay Movieacadoes, two pet threads down and while people did not exactly go ape for them I have still decided that I am not quite tired of monkeying around quite yet. And it being a movie slow season it is still primal time to go bananas and swing into action. It may not simian like a good idea off the get go, but the worst that can happen is this whole thing is a chimpsaster and we start all over next week, and I will gorilla in a different direction with the prompts…

Yes this week we talk about movie primates, apes, monkeys and everything else that fits the bill. I once read a long time ago that any movie can be made better with the addition of a primate of any sort, and while you may point out that there are plenty of terrible movies containing primates I would counter that those movies may have been terrible but also would have more than likely be much worse without said creatures. And finally after much thought I came to the conclusion that primates mainly occupy two roles/purposes in movies: Either comedy or action (although there is the odd drama it is somewhat rare). Big apes can be a big threat to human and giant radioactive fire breathing lizard characters and given their combination of strength and agility they can have some pretty great action sequences built around them, while monkeys often are played for laughs (although infrequently they shine in the horror genre). Jokes, sight gags and general tomfoolery abound when a monkey is on screen.

So this week’s prompt is primal, what is your favourite movie primate/movie featuring primate(s)? Again have some fun with the responses and we have one more ‘animal’ based prompt to go.
