The Avocado Weekly Movie Thread (02/10)

Movieacados! Life can get a little ruff sometimes and and when your dogs are barking it can seem impawsible to get these prompts going. Furtunately life threw me a bone this week with some pupspiration. Okay terrible puns aside (terrible, or howlarious?) I do give thought to animals in movies and this week particularly those of the canine variety so we will talk a bit about humanity’s best friend(s) the dogs this week.

Dogs actually do hold a special place in our stories and that is fully evident in movies. There are a lot of movies where the dog is the title character such as Old Yeller, Cujo and the Hound from Fox and the Hound. With dogs in movies we can get characters that act as dogs as we see them today, or through things like animation or just voice overs we can have more anthropomorphized versions of animals in movies that allow us to tell stories from a different angle. They can add humour, fun and also unfortunately sadness. The sadness can be so strong with animals, particularly dogs they created “Does the Dog Die” website to warn those who would be upset that this movie may or may not be for you. Which means dogs are so important to us that they have actually changed the way we view movies, which is pretty powerful when you think about it.

So we can accept that they are all good pups, I do have to ask who’s a good boy… ahem… Who is your favourite movie dog? Loose rules apply on this one, wolves and foxes also count, and if you can make a strong enough argument (as I intend to in my answer) that can also count. So without further adieu, let us see who is Best in Show…
