Today in “Shows I used to watch,” it’s Pushing Daisies!
Pushing Daisies was an unfortunately short-lived show that fell victim to bad ratings and a writer’s strike. It ran for 2 seasons starting in 2007.
Pushing Daisies is a fantasy show about a man, Ned, who has the power to bring people, animals, and plants back to life with a touch. However, he must kill the person (animal / plant) by touching them again within one minute, or someone/something else will die. Ned makes pies at The Pie Hole. He brings his childhood crush, Chuck (Charlotte Charles) back to life, but they can never touch. They manage to have a romance anyway.
Other characters include Olive Snook, who works at the Pie Hole and has a crush on Ned; Emerson Cod, a private detective who hires Ned to help him solve crimes and who is a curmudgeon with a heart of gold; and Chuck’s aunts, Vivian and Lily.
It’s a very pretty show with hypersaturated colors and whimsical settings and themes. And the occasional musical number. It has a big heart and despite the death theme it can be funny and sweet.
Pushing Daisies is streaming on HBO Max.
