Jeopardy! recap for Tue., Nov. 25

Here are today’s contestants:

  • Lyman Howard, a financial advisor from Mill Valley, California;
  • Emma Passariello, a naval architecture student from Westbury, New York; and
  • Harrison Whitaker, a researcher originally from Terre Haute, Indiana. Harrison is a ten-day champ with winnings of $289,600.

Jeopardy!

THE U.S. BETWEEN THE WORLD WARS // ODD MUSEUMS // DON’T YOU HATE IT WHEN…? // SHARED ROOTS // POUR DECISIONS // WHERE AM “I”?

DD1 – $1,000 – SHARED ROOTS – The flesh-ripping humor of sarcasm shares a root with this container that comes from the Greek for “flesh eating” (Harrison improved by $2,500 to $6,500.)

Scores at first break: Harrison $600, Emma $3,800, Lyman $1,600.

Scores entering DJ: Harrison $8,300, Emma $3,600, Lyman $1,800.

Double Jeopardy!

SHAKESPEARE, WHO SAID IT? // PEW PEW PEW // 9-LETTER WORDS // ITALIAN AMERICANS // SONG TITLE BEFORE & AFTER // ANIMALS OF ZOOTOPIA

DD2 – $1,200 – PEW PEW PEW – This main part of a church where the pews are located takes its name from the Latin for “ship”, which it’s kinda shaped like (Harrison added $3,400 up to $14,100.)

DD3 – $2,000 – SHAKESPEARE, WHO SAID IT? – “Caparison my horse. Call up Lord Stanley, bid him bring his power: I will lead forth my soldiers to the plain” (With a big lead, Harrison dropped $6,000 to $16,900.)

Harrison overcame a slow start to lead by the end of round one, surprisingly missed DD3 but still had an easy runaway into FJ at $19,700 vs. $2,400 for Emma and $600 for Lyman.

Final Jeopardy!

1980s TELEVISION – This spin-off premiered 21 years after the show that inspired it but took place nearly a century later

Only Lyman was ruled to be correct on FJ. Harrison dropped just $300 to win with $19,400 for an eleven-day total of $309,000.

Final scores: Harrison $19,400, Emma $2,400, Lyman $1,100.

Triple Stumper of the day: For a top-row clue, no one figured out the “I” state that’s alphabetically last is Iowa.

Clue selection strategy: After finding DD2, Harrison chose twice from that same category while DD3 was still on the board.

Pedantry corner: SHAKESPEARE, WHO SAID IT? is a question looking for an answer, not an answer looking for a question.

Correct Qs: DD1 – What is sarcophagus? DD2 – What is nave? DD3 – Who was Richard III? FJ – What is “Star Trek: The Next Generation”?
