November 11 is a federal holiday in the United States, initially known as Armistice Day but later observed as Veterans Day. Similarly, it’s observed as Remembrance Day across the British Commonwealth countries. It was on November 11, 1918, that a cease fire took effect at 11:00 a.m. The agreement had been signed at 5:45 a.m., but both sides agreed to allow a few hours for the word to get out.
Many commanders chose to continue the fight vigorously right up until the clock struck 11:00, and one US Army intelligence officer observed that several artillery units on both sides kept up the shelling right up until nightfall.
War is awful and disgusting and sad and shows humanity at its absolute worst, but that’s what makes it a great inspiration for comedy and shitposts!
Everyone is hereby ordered to find something that makes you laugh! Unless you’re really not in the mood; I don’t mean to put any pressure on anybody.
