Following on from threads several weeks back, I finally started experimenting with printmaking at home for the first time since before the pandemic. The results are mixed but cautiously optimistic thus far; it’s been interesting to mentally navigate the process, as there are subtle but real differences between approaches to printmaking and, say, drawing or painting.

Orchids, Moth and Moon (block print on paper, November 2025).

It may or may not have been a sign, but I swung by our downtown library after work Saturday to drop off a few things only to find the annual printmaking festival still going on (it’s part of a larger annual local festival focusing on books). I’d been vaguely aware but had completely forgotten about it as I’m usually at work for these things and printmaking’s still nowhere near an automatic flex. Picked up a couple of stickers for my artboard from a local artist I like but not that much, and a zine from a Kalamazoo artist I’d never encountered that showcased some of the illustrations they’d turned into prints. It was a welcome glimpse into a more familiar artistic viewpoint than I’ve encountered in ages, and offered a number of other possibilities I’ve recently considered (more on that later).

Dragon and Stars (linocut, November 2025).

Less said about the header the better, but IYKYK.

How’s your work going?
