I graduated from Senn High School in 1980. Located on Chicago’s North Side, Senn is a fairly typical inner-city public high school, except for the fact that a lot of famous and semi-famous people graduated from there. Today let’s meet one that will really drive your pledge, journalist and NPR Weekend Edition host Scott Simon, class of 1970.
Scott was born in Chicago in 1952. His godfather was Jack Brickhouse, who was the play-by-play man for the Chicago Cubs for years. Scott’s father, a comedian, died when he was 16. After graduating from Senn Scott attended the University of Chicago.
In 1977, NPR hired Scott as its Chicago bureau chief. He began hosting Weekend Edition in 1985.
Scott lives in Washington, DC with his wife, French documentary filmmaker Caroline Richard. He has written several non-fiction books and two novels. In addition to winning multiple Emmys and Peabody Awards Scott has also been awarded multiple honorary degrees.
