Jeopardy! recap for Fri., Oct. 24

Here are today’s contestants:

  • Shaan Mishra, a management consultant from Carmel, Indiana;
  • Kristina Pohribnij, a stay-at-home mom from Palatine, Illinois; and
  • Tom Devlin, an attorney from Washington, D.C. Tom is a three-day champ with winnings of $73,199.

Jeopardy!

SOMETIME LAST CENTURY // THE NATIONAL TOY HALL OF FAME // COMPARATIVE WORDS // MOVIE LAST LINES // LET YOUR GREEK FLAG FLY // USC & UCLA

DD1 – $600 – MOVIE LAST LINES – 1987: “Grandpa? Maybe you could come over & read it again to me tomorrow”; “as you wish” (Tom doubled to $3,200.)

Scores at first break: Tom $7,400, Kristina $2,600, Shaan $600.

Scores entering DJ: Tom $9,000, Kristina $4,400, Shaan $2,600.

Double Jeopardy!

THOSE ARE PILLARS! // CHICKEN DISC JOCKEY // EUROPEAN CITIES // ACRONYMS // WOMEN AUTHORS // YOU “SC” & YOU “CLA”

DD2 – $1,200 – ACRONYMS – 5-letter acronym for an Aussie or Kiwi soldier (Tom improved his first place score by $5,000 to $16,000.)

DD3 – $2,000 – YOU “SC” & YOU “CLA” – If you don’t fire ’til you see the whites of their eyes, you’re waiting to see this, which covers 5/6 of the eyeball (Shaan moved into second place by adding $5,000 up to $12,800.)

Once again, Tom led at every break, but this time all three players stayed in the running into FJ with Tom at $22,800, Shaan with $15,600 and Kristina at $10,800.

Final Jeopardy!

RELICS – Missionary William Ellis reported in 1825 that his “bones were preserved … & were considered sacred by the people” of Hawaii

Shaan was correct on FJ, but since he wagered $0, he would need both opponents to miss to have a chance to win. Fortunately for Shaan, that’s exactly what happened, so he took the victory with $15,600.

Final scores: Tom $14,399, Kristina $5,800, Shaan $15,600.

That’s before their time: No one knew the movie for which “Well, nobody’s perfect” is the last line is “Some Like It Hot”, or the ’60s trumpeter who’s the “A” in A&M Records is Herb Alpert.

Judging the judges: While a clue about a chicken part was looking for “wing”, they correctly ruled that “wang” is an acceptable alternate pronunciation of wing in this case.

Correct Qs: DD1 – What is “The Princess Bride”? DD2 – What is ANZAC? DD3 – What is sclera? FJ – Who was Captain Cook?
