Not to be confused with California Woman, California Girls or California Gurls, it’s the hit song from Track of the Moon Beast!

This is the studio version of the song from the movie, and it turns out when it’s not filmed with the world’s worst camera and has actual sound mixing it’s not bad! Track of the Moon Beast was part of MST3K’s tenth season; here’s Mike, Tom and Crow riffing the song, and the Legends of Rock segment on “The Band That Played California Lady”.

The song’s inclusion in the movie seems like a happy accident; according to horror host Marlena Midnite and unsourced Wikipedia claims, Frank Larrabee was staying at the same hotel as the movie’s cast and crew and they asked him if he felt like doing a performance for the movie. This was Larrabee’s sole IMDB credit. According to his obituary Larrabee was also a “renowned Appaloosa advocate” and when he passed last year, he was mourned by nerdy fans of a cult TV show.
