Jeopardy! recap for Mon., Oct. 13

Here are today’s contestants:

  • Allegra Hill, a foreign affairs professional from Washington, D.C.
  • Daniel Richman, a Ph.D. student originally from Santa Barbara, California; and
  • Aimée Fluitt, a former national security consultant originally from Kansas City, Missouri. Aimée is a one-day champ with winnings of $4,599.

Jeopardy!

INTERSECTING WITH INSECTS // WORLD LITERATURE // TV TITLE FIRST & LAST NAME // ROCKS OF NOTE // “EZ” DOES IT // BACKHANDED COMPLIMENTS

DD1 – $800 – “EZ” DOES IT – One who sings the part of Amneris in “Aida”, for example (Aimée added $2,000.)

Scores at first break: Aimée $2,200, Daniel $1,600, Allegra $4,400.

Scores entering DJ: Aimée $5,000, Daniel $3,600, Allegra $5,000.

Double Jeopardy!

HOW DID I END UP IN CHARGE? // U.S. “J”-OGRAPHY // THE ARCTIC // IN GOOD COMPANY // LATIN LESSON // BACKHAND COMPLIMENT

DD2 – $1,200 – LATIN LESSON – If someone says this 3-word phrase, you might have been a little loose-lipped during happy hour (From a close third, Daniel dropped $4,000 down to $2,400.)

DD3 – $1,200 – U.S. “J”-OGRAPHY – It was originally proposed that this capital be called Missouriopolis (Allegra improved by $3,800 to $11,600 vs. $6,600 for Aimée.)

Everyone got a chance at a DD, but it was Allegra’s correct response on DD3 that made the difference in her leading into FJ at $12,800 vs. $11,800 for Aimée and $5,600 for Daniel.

Final Jeopardy!

THE OSCARS – The first 2 actors to refuse their Oscar trophies were in films with scripts that this man co-wrote

Only Allegra was correct on FJ, adding $10,801 to win with $23,601.

Final scores: Aimée $11,300, Daniel $5,600, Allegra $23,601.

Judging the writers: A clue that’s essentially “Name the capital of Missouri that begins with a J” seems pretty easy for a second-round DD.

Triple Stumper of the day: No one knew the parent company of supermarket chains Ralphs and Smith’s is Kroger.

Correct Qs: DD1 – What is mezzo-soprano? DD2 – What is in vino veritas? DD3 – What is Jefferson City? FJ – Who was Francis Ford Coppola? (Allegra wrote “Ford-Coppola” as a hyphenated last name and it was accepted.)
