Happy 50th birthday to Kate Winslet, born on this day in 1975! She appeared in the film Heavenly Creatures and went on to the heights of Titanic and Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind. As a Jane Austen-ite, (an Austen… freak, even) I really enjoyed Kate as Marianne in the 1995 Sense and Sensibility.

Kate has been nominated for major awards enough times that there’s a seperate Wikipedia page for List of awards and nominations she’s received. These include winning the Oscar in 2009 for The Reader, winning BAFTAs for that movie along with Sense and Sensibility and Steve Jobs, and winning Emmys for Mildred Pierce and Mare of Easttown. She also won a Grammy Award (best spoken word album for children in 2000 with Listen to the Storyteller), bringing her 3/4 the way to EGOT!
