Jeopardy!

MONOPOLY SPACES // DOUBLE-LETTER ENDINGS // MOTTO ZONE // WE LOVE YOU, JUDY // BRAVE // THE ELEMENTS

DD1 – $1,000 – THE ELEMENTS – Oak Ridge National Laboratory predictably has a webpage for this superheavy element, no. 117 on the periodic table (TJ lost $500 from his leading score of $2,800.)

Scores at first break: TJ $3,300, Roberto $1,600, Ellie -$400.

Scores entering DJ: TJ $8,100, Roberto $1,200, Ellie $800.

Double Jeopardy!

CIVIL WAR GENERALS // TV TITLE OVERLAPS // LAKE LIVING // SAFE WORDS // GODS & GODDESSES // ADJECTIVES & ADVERBS

DD2 – $2,000 – GODS & GODDESSES – The protector deity of Alexandria was Serapis, an amalgam as his name suggests of this ruler of the dead & Apis (Ellie added $2,000 to her score of $3,600 vs. $8,100 for TJ.)

DD3 – $1,200 – SAFE WORDS – A word meaning safely isolated, it’s the title of Catherine Coldstream’s memoir about her “Years as a Nun” (TJ improved by $4,500 to $13,400 vs. $9,200 for Ellie.)

For the second straight game, TJ led at every break, faced a brief challenge from Ellie in DJ then drew off again, entering FJ with a runaway at $23,800 vs. $10,000 for Ellie and $800 for Roberto.

Final Jeopardy!

GROUNDBREAKING DRAMA – Act I of this 1879 play opens in a room with “a small sofa”, “a small table” & “a cabinet with china and other small objects”

Only Roberto was correct on FJ as everyone wagered $0. TJ’s win of $23,800 brings his two-day total fo $38,889.

Final scores: TJ $23,800, Roberto $800, Ellie $10,000.

Tough category of the day: The players avoided CIVIL WAR GENERALS for good reason, as they missed four out of five. A couple of those required no Civil War knowledge at all, such as the inventor of baseball in legend (Abner Doubleday) and the most likely guess for “this 19-year-old outlaw” (Billy the Kid).

That’s before their time: For a clue about 1969’s “Suite: Judy Blue Eyes”, written for “Stephen, 1/3 of this trio”, after TJ missed with The Kingston Trio, his opponents didn’t come up with Crosby, Stills and Nash.

Wagering strategy: On yesterday’s show Ken proclaimed a $2,000 bet on a DD “the coward’s wager”, but that didn’t stop that amount from being used again on the very next episode.

Correct Qs: DD1 – What is tennessine? DD2 – Who is Osiris? DD3 – What is “Cloistered”? FJ – What is “A Doll’s House”?
