The Fisher Night Thread

The fisher, or fisher cat, is not a cat and it doesn’t eat fish. The name comes from “fitch”, the European polecat, for it is indeed a mustelid! They are north America forest-dwellers, where their thick fur and retractable claws allow them to hunt anything small enough to bring down; up to and including small deer and Canadian lynx.

They get very, very fluffy in the winter:

Like many mustelids, they have delayed implantation of the blastocyst after mating, so they typically mate immediately after giving birth and then get pregnant the following spring. However, I will NOT delay showing you the baby pic:
