Yes, it’s time for an Open Thread that I’m using as an excuse to revisit some travel I’ve done and share some photos. Sighișoara is a small city of about 24,000 people, located close to the geographic centre of Romania in the Transylvania region. Though it’s not large today, Sighișoara was an important strategic and commercial centre, and today its fortified historic town centre is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

I was lucky enough to visit Sighișoara when I was in Romania this past May, and it definitely made an impression on me. It probably helped that I was there a little before peak tourist season, and staying there for a couple of nights sometimes made it feel like I had the old town entirely to myself.

The city is located in the foothills of the Carpathian mountains, so while the surroundings aren’t incredibly spectacular, the rolling hills do make for a nice backdrop, and really add to the atmosphere of the town

I hope that you’ve enjoyed this brief tour of Sighișoara and that you have a great day! If you want to see a few more of my pictures, I’ve put them in a gallery below.
