The 8/7 Day Thread finds its white whale of forgotten tv shows

In what is probably going to be the last in the series of my “shows only I remembered existed, couldn’t find any information on for decades, only to stumble onto them as a 40-something,” we go slightly off-book. Instead of a tv show, I’m going to talk about a tv videocassette my parents had.

It’s very easy to get songs stuck in your head, especially when you’re a kid. Songs also get stuck in your head if they help you learn things. Sesame Street has built its entire legacy on it.

For 35 goddamn years, the lyric “Adjectives and adverbs/words that describe and make sentences grand! has been rattling around in my head. Every English test I took from childhood to college brought this lyric up. Every time I played MadLibs or Cards Against Humanity, my mind brought this lyric up. But I had no idea where the song came from. I could not remember any more of the song. All I remembered was a VHS cassette of a boy puppet and a girl puppet and the humans they taught grammar to. Even Reddit threads and AV Club threads on “find this half-remembered thing from my childhood” failed. This sounds like the beginning of a creepy short story, but it’s true.

And then, this year, I tried searching for it again and struck pay dirt. Someone else on Reddit shared their memories of this fever dream and got an answer! The VHS tapes were called Cricket and PJ and the goddamn videos are online! There’s a very generic fan(?) site for the show!

I am not crazy. This exists.
