Welcome to The Avocado’s weekly discussion of Japanese pop culture! Looking for something new to watch? Want a show that’s a perfect blend of humor and heart? Interested in lots of long, beautiful shots of Mt. Fuji? Good news, I have the perfect show for you! It’s called The Hot Spot (ホットスポット), it’s on Netflix, and I highly recommend it! I still have two episodes left to watch, but I’m confident that it will continue to be delightful. I started the show knowing nothing about it (Ralph randomly chose it for us to watch one night), and going in blind felt right, so I hesitant to say too much about what it is….I guess the best way to describe it would be…slice-of-life deadpan comedy showing the importance of strong bonds of friendship and community. Also, some mysterious things happen. But mostly it’s the first thing I said. The header image is actually a pretty good summary of the show.
And, as always…
What have you been watching/reading/playing/eating/listening to lately?
Happy Wednesday! 🍙
