Daryl “Chill” Mitchell was born on July 16, 1965.
In the 1980s, he was in the hip-hop group Groove B. Chill. He made his film debut in House Party, followed by roles in the TV shows The John Larroquette Show and Veronica’s Closet. He had several other roles in film and TV, including Galaxy Quest and playing the English teacher in 10 Things I Hate About You.
In November of 2001, Mitchell was in a motorcycle accident that left him paralyzed, and he now uses a wheelchair. He has stated that his friend David Snowden, who has used a wheelchair since 1991, was there to help him adjust. He also said that Denzel Washington was one of the friends who was there for him post-accident.
Following Mitchell’s accident, he appeared in main cast roles on Ed and NCIS: New Orleans. He also received an NAACP Image Award for “Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series” for the short-lived show Brothers. He continues to work in Hollywood. He also serves as a Minority Outreach Spokesperson for the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation.
