Jeopardy!

A DOG OF A STORY // ON THE MAP // ALL ALONE // THIS IS NOT A DRILL // I LOVE YOU, MAN // FIGURES OF SPEECH

DD1 – $800 – ON THE MAP – Geologically a microcontinent, this island separated from Africa about 160 million years ago (Kiley took sole possession of first, improving by $2,400 to $6,800.)

Scores at first break: Micah $3,600, Kiley $1,000, Greg -$800.

Scores entering DJ: Micah $5,800, Kiley $7,800, Greg -$200.

Double Jeopardy!

MUSICAL GEOGRAPHY WITH JOHNNY GILBERT // WELCOME TO YOUR MICROBIOME // 3-LETTER RESPONSES // BIG IN FEUDAL JAPAN // WORLD LEADERS // Xs & Os

DD2 – $1,200 – WELCOME TO YOUR MICROBIOME – Looking to up your helpful bacteria? Pucker up, buttercup & have some kefir, sauerkraut or kimchi, which undergo this process (Greg moved to a closer third by adding $2,000.)

DD3 – $1,600 – BIG IN FEUDAL JAPAN – Samurai are associated with the katana or sword, but also had to master the yumi, this weapon, even on horseback (Micah added $2,000 to his score of $13,400 vs. $12,200 for Kiley.)

Micah had a small lead when he found DD3, was correct with a modest wager, and was able to hold the advantage into FJ at $15,800 vs. $14,200 for Kiley and $6,200 for Greg.

Final Jeopardy!

LITERARY ALLUSIONS – One of the first chatbots was named for this language-learning character from a 1913 play and 1956 musical

Only Kiley was correct on FJ, adding $10,001 to win with $24,201.

Final scores: Micah $10,800, Kiley $24,201, Greg $0.

Wagering strategy: A better percentage play for Kiley on FJ would have been to bet $1,601, which would have locked out Greg and forced Micah to be correct with a non-zero bet to defeat her. Meanwhile, Micah’s wager of $5,000 didn’t cover a potential large bet from Kiley and if he didn’t want to go big, he should have gone small enough to lock out Greg.

That’s before their time: No one knew the largely outdated term for a slot machine is one-armed bandit.

Correct Qs: DD1 – What is Madagascar? DD2 – What is fermentation? DD3 – What is bow (and arrow)? FJ – Who is Eliza (Doolittle)?
