Welcome to The Avocado’s weekly discussion of Japanese pop culture! Last week I started reading Run Away With Me, Girl by Battan. And I’m really enjoying it, so I thought I’d feature it here today! Originally published in Hatsu Kiss, this manga is complete with three volumes. The story focuses on two women who dated in high school but broke up at graduation because one of them felt it was “time to grow up”. Years later they run into each other again….Will they reconnect? That’s what the story is about, so you’ll have to read it yourself to find out! So far, I can tell you that this definitely isn’t a carefree romance. But it is about adults and all the complex issues that come with that, so if you’re looking for that then I recommend you check this series out! Also, I’m loving the art, especially Battan’s use of sparkles to really emphasize when a character has a strong “pop” of emotion. Hard to describe…but look at this as an example.

And, as always…
What have you been watching/reading/playing/eating/listening to lately?
Happy Wednesday! 🌸
