“Trip to Your Heart” originally appeared on A Whole New Thing, the 1967 debut album by Sly and the Family Stone. While the album failed to gain much attention at the time and continues to be somewhat neglected (for example, not a single song from the album appeared on the band’s ubiquitous 1970 Greatest Hits compilation, or on many of the subsequent compilations that came out in the years that followed), to many who might not have even heard this song before it will almost certainly sound familiar, as it was very effectively sampled for a song by a certain rap artist at the dawn of the nineties.
