Jeopardy!
THE DEVIL, YOU SEE! // YOUR BODY, IN LATIN // ALL 5 VOWELS, JUST ONE WORD // HOT, TO GO // LIVE LONG // PROSPERO
DD1 – $1,000 – HOT, TO GO – You can get soup or mac & cheese in a bread bowl from this place with a name from Latin for “bread basket” (Matt doubled to $2,000.)
Scores at first break: Matt $1,600, Josh $2,000, Sean $3,800.
Scores entering DJ: Matt $5,600, Josh $1,800, Sean $6.400.
Double Jeopardy!
THE ENGLISH PAST // IS THERE A “D.R.” IN THE HOUSE? // TV SHOW MASHUPS // RESERVOIRS, DAWG // 9-LETTER VOCAB // YOUR FRIENDS & NEIGHBORS
DD2 – $1,200 – THE ENGLISH PAST – Published by Clarendon Press, this definitive reference work was completed in 1928 after 70 years of effort (In the first clue of the round, Josh lost $2,000.)
DD3 – $1,200 – RESERVOIRS, DAWG – Cities bordering Kuybyshev Reservoir, largest on the Volga River, include Ulyanovsk, now named for this leader who was born there (Sean dropped $2,929 from his leading score of $7,200 vs. $5,600 for Matt.)
Matt’s opponents both missed DDs early in DJ, and he sat on the edge of a runaway late, but he missed a couple of responses and the game stayed alive into FJ with Matt at $18,800 vs. $9,871 for Sean and $8,200 for Josh.
Final Jeopardy!
BROADWAY CAST ALBUMS – In 2024, 21 years after it was first released, the original cast album for this show made the top 40 for the first time
Matt and Josh were correct on FJ, with Matt adding $3,000 to win with $21,800 for a three-day total of $79,800.
Final scores: Matt $21,800, Josh $11,200, Sean $0.
Wagering strategy: Matt only needed to wager about $1,000 on FJ to protect against a possible double-up by Sean and shut out Josh. By betting $3,000, Matt opened the door for Josh to pass him on FJ if Matt had missed while Josh was correct and if he bet big.
This day in shilling: They had a plug category for a new streaming series, as well as a category devoted to fast food menu items in which they decided to place a Daily Double. This comes two episodes after a FJ clue in which they strained to come up with something about a major retail chain.
Correct Qs: DD1 – What is Panera? DD2 – What is Oxford English Dictionary? DD3 – Who was Lenin? FJ – What is “Wicked”?
