Here are today’s contestants:

  • Jackie Rogoff, a writer & library student from Santa Cruz, California;
  • Ted Nyman, a startup founder from San Francisco, California; and
  • Nikhil Joshi, a veterinarian originally from Montville, New Jersey. Nikhil is a two-day champ with winnings of $20,199.

Jeopardy!

THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION // LOGO-A-GO-GO // QUASI-STUPID ANSWERS // “IN- & “-OUT” // BIRD SONG // LET’S TALK ABOUT POLLUTION

DD1 – $600 – THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION – When a mob of colonials pelted British soldiers with snowballs, they opened fire, killing 5 in an act dubbed this bloodletting (Jackie doubled to $2,000.)

Scores at first break: Nikhil $2,600, Ted $1,000, Jackie $4,000.

Scores entering DJ: Nikhil $4,800, Ted $2,200, Jackie $7,000.

Double Jeopardy!

WORLD GEOGRAPHY // SCIENTIFIC RHYME TIME // THE RENAISSANCE // THAT FOOD IS PEOPLE! // GRAMMY FOR BEST SPOKEN WORD // SAY GOODBYE TO A GOOD BOOK

DD2 – $1,600 – THE RENAISSANCE – Francis Bacon wrote, “We are much beholden to” this Italian “and others, that write what men do, and not what they ought to do” (Jackie dropped $2,000 from her leading score of $10,200 vs. $6,800 for Nikhil.)

DD3 – $800 – SCIENTIFIC RHYME TIME – A naked runner carrying a wide-mouthed lab vessel (Jackie improved by $5,000 to $20,400 vs. $9,600 for Nikhil.)

Jackie found all three DDs, bet enough on DD3 to open a slight runaway margin and increased it into FJ at $23,600 vs. $11,000 for Ted and $10,400 for Nikhil.

Final Jeopardy!

MOVIE TITLES – This title of a Hollywood blockbuster is a national symbol of Gabon

Only Ted was correct on FJ. Jackie dropped $1,599 to win with $22,001.

Final scores: Nikhil $9,799, Ted $21,500, Jackie $22,001.

Wagering strategy: This was a good example of why it’s important not to get too conservative with bets on DD3 with a non-runaway lead. If Jackie had wagered $2,000 less on DD3, Ted would have had enough to pass her on FJ and win the game.

Triple Stumper of the day: No one knew the rounded shapes found on Renaissance-era cathedrals are domes.

Correct Qs: DD1 – What is the Boston Massacre? DD2 – Who was Machiavelli? DD3 – What is beaker streaker? (Those words in either order are acceptable). FJ – What is “Black Panther”?
