For the third weekend in a row, From the World of Live-Action: Lilo & Stitch is our number one movie, and it really wasn’t even a contest as they danced right past From the World of John Wick: Ballerina like it was nothing. Despite the best efforts of Lionsgate, audiences simply aren’t flocking to this “spin-off” starring a character who never appeared in any of the previous films, even if it does have that extended Keanu Reeves cameo. It gets worse when you take into account that the $25 million Ballerina made includes two days of preview showings, but hey, at least it opened better than From the World of The Karate Kid: The Pizzeria Story managed last week. So that’s something.
Elsewhere, From the World of Mission: Impossible–Grok Gets Pissed is hanging in there, although it’s going to finish far below the bigger entries of the franchise. As for our other newcomer, From the World of Steve Zissou: The Unalive Capsule premiered softer than expected, not even climbing into the top five. Not that Wes Anderson’s career will suffer for it (his fans always show up), but this is smaller than some of his recent openings.
