  • Stella Trout, a software engineer originally from Houston, Texas. Stella is a one-day champ with winnings of $28,800.

Jeopardy!

REELIN’ IN THE YEAR // BEASTLY TELEVISION // GEOGRAPHIC NICKNAMES // PUTTING THE BRAND BACK TOGETHER // GIVE US THE SHORT VERSION // JEOPARDY! STRONG

DD1 – $1,000 – GIVE US THE SHORT VERSION – Cut the lizard-related part off & you’re left with this 4-letter shortened word, the “terrible” part (On the first clue, Stella added $1,000.)

Scores at first break: Stella $5,400, Jay -$400, Joey $200.

Scores entering DJ: Stella $7,200, Jay $1,400, Joey $2,200.

Double Jeopardy!

REALITY, FICTIONALIZED // SCIENCE STUFF // THE SAME LETTER 3 TIMES // COLLEGES & UNIVERSITIES // THE ARK OF THE COVENANT // SPORTS FLICKS

DD2 – $1,600 – COLLEGES & UNIVERSITIES -Daniel Webster, a grad of this Ivy League school, argued & won an important 1819 Supreme Court case on its behalf (Stella added $2,000 to her score of $8,800 vs. $8,200 for Joey.)

DD3 – $2,000 – THE SAME LETTER 3 TIMES – From the Latin for “iron”, it’s the specific job of someone who shoes horses & cares for their hooves (On the next clue after DD2, Stella improved by $4,000 to $14,800.)

It took a while to find the DDs in DJ, then Stella picked them back-to-back and scored on both. But Joey put together some correct responses late to avoid the runaway, with Stella at $17,200, Joey with $9,400 and Jay at $4,200.

Final Jeopardy!

AMERICAN HISTORY – He recalled that before an 1831 revolt, he had a vision of “white spirits and black spirits engaged in battle”

Only Joey was correct on FJ, adding $7,801 to win with $17,201.

Final scores: Stella $15,200, Jay $1,200, Joey $17,201.

Wagering strategy: On DD3, Stella had a choice, to try and build a runaway margin right now, or protect the downside risk with a smaller bet. As it played out, a wager of $6,000 on DD3 would have locked up the game.

That’s before their time: No one knew the sports movie that had a short-lived TV version starring Jack Warden as the coach was “The Bad News Bears”.

One more thing: If one were to say Mister Ed hitting a home run off of Sandy Koufax was the greatest scene in television history, I would not dispute the point.

Correct Qs: DD1 – What is dino? DD2 – What is Dartmouth? DD3 – What is farrier (ferrier)? FJ – Who was Nat Turner?
