Happy 65th birthday to Chris Elliott!, writer and performer of often surreal humor. His dad was the comedian Bob Elliott, who was half of the comedy team Bob and Ray. Chris Elliott first came to attention for his appearances as a variety of characters on Late Night with David Letterman. He went on to have his own sitcom, Get a Life, which co-starred his father. He also had lead roles in the movie Cabin Boy and the TV show Eagleheart, and has had supporting roles in projects like Groundhog Day and Schitt’s Creek. He was on SNL for one season and his daughter Abby was on the show for four years. His daughter Bridey is also a performer.

Random memory that popped up as I typed this: I watched Chris Elliott host Friday Night Videos staying in character as mildly deranged Marlon Brando the whole show. He referred to the videos as “short jazz films.” Good times
