British pop star and institution has enjoyed two spells of cultural hotness. Originally a member of the band Theaudience (whose song “A Pessimist is Never Disappointed” is one perfect tune), she found mainstream success in 2000, with the song Groovejet (If This Ain’t Love) by DJ and record producer Spiller for which she wrote and sang the lyrics. Since her initial burst of musical success, she has held down a steady pop career with an eighth album, Perimenopop, releasing later this year. She is a regular performer at Pride festivals, headlining shows across England.

As musicians flocked to YouTube and other online platforms during the Godforsaken Lockdown era, so did Ellis-Bextor, livestreaming her Kitchen Disco shows as her children played around in the background. Their success led to a radio show, new tours, and a performance at Glastonbury. Zillennials and the film Saltburn propelled her 2001 single “Murder on the Dancefloor” back into the charts last year. Hurrah!
Have a lovely Saturday and take care of yourselves, everyone!
