Let me preface this by saying that I’ve never played the indie platformer Dustforce. And yet one part of it has had a lasting impact on me – the soothing electronic soundtrack, composed by Terence Lee, aka Lifeformed. For the past several years I’ve enjoyed listening to calming video game music (VGM) while going about my daily routine, something that really helps me to focus and stay on task. This love of relaxing VGM was triggered in large part by encountering tracks from Dustforce in a random YouTube playlist. Something about the game’s soundtrack spoke to me, and pretty soon I was actively seeking out other such songs.
Thus, I would like to share a few of my favorites from the game’s OST with you all:
Cider Time was the first of the game’s tracks I listened to, and my favorite. The simplicity of the melody, the persistent drumbeat, and the reverb together create a song that is straightforward but also has a sense of momentum to it.
The flute-like synths of Elvish Piper Academy and the effects reminiscent of rippling water make me feel like I’m wandering through a forest one peaceful morning.
There’s something so enigmatic and almost melancholic about The Magnetic Tree that I love.
That’s all for now! I’m considering making more headers focused on other favorite relaxing VGM tracks of mine – if that’s something you’d be interested in seeing/hearing, let me know!
Have a great day!
