I watched a movie this weekend (and I will not say which one just to avoid possibility of spoilers however minor) and there was a night club action/fight scene that I very much enjoyed and it got me thinking about other movies with similar action sequences. See it turns out that I can recall a LOT of movies where there is an elaborate action sequence that takes place in a bar/pub/nightclub (going forward I am just going to refer to it as a bar for simplicity sake) and a lot of them are really great.

It makes a lot of sense to shoot an action scene in a bar as you have a built in atmosphere just primed to provide some high quality action. Already you can have some killer music that just happens to be playing that will score your potential rampage. EDM, rock, punk, industrial (is Industrial still a thing?), DJs, Jukebox or any music really can add punch to the punches, kick to the kicks or make pyrotechnics really go off with a bang. This provides opportunity for fight choreography or just adding tension as a score usually does. Music aside you also get lighting in a bar. This can range from a dingy dive style lighting (the dank, the dank!) to all kinds of laser strobe type deals that I assume happens at bars that I am neither hip enough to get into or young enough to stay up late enough to go to. Finally, between people, bars, stools, drinks there is enough things outside of the fight/fighters to throw obstacles in the way, cause panic and mayhem, or just grab some random items to add to the action. Yes bars do offer a potential triple threat of delight for any action junkie.

So this brings me back to this weeks prompt: What is your favourite action sequence set in a bar? This is also not limited to fight scenes either, a chase scene is an action scene, playing loose with the rules (as I frequently do) you could count a very elaborate dance off. For me I would go with the opening scene in Blade. It sets up the movie so great starting with vampire society and then moving from a blood shower to a full on literal bloodbath. The action is great the visuals, the music everything here is set up for one great character entrance/introduction and pay off. Also, as per usual did you watch anything worth mentioning this week?
