Summer is now here, and Thunderbolts* is leading the pack. But like the film’s title, that statement comes with an asterisk. $76 million is a healthy number, but even just a few years ago Marvel was able to pull off bigger openings on a regular basis. Would it have struck harder if some of its antiheroes hadn’t been introduced in streaming shows? Probably. If you want to know what I’m talking about, imagine if the Guardians of the Galaxy had made their debuts in individual Disney+ series and then had their big screen adventure together.

Meanwhile, Sinners got a taste of reality this weekend, but not much of one, as the horror movie has already surpassed the entire domestic gross of Get Out. By this time next week, Sinners will has crossed the $200 million mark and A Minecraft Movie will have hit the four century milestone. It’s good to be Warner Bros. right now.
