We have reached the Final Four, and we now have the answers to the questions I posed in the last header!
- Dirty Dancing (#54 seed) could not hold out against Young Frankenstein (#3). “Puttin’ on the Ritz” blew past “Time of My Life” with a score of 44-11, ending the iconic dance sequence’s run and dashing anyone’s hopes for a major upset in the bracket.
- The Producers (#20) edged out Holy Grail (#5), with a final score of 28-26. Mel Brooks did manage to eliminate two of the most popular Monty Python songs, having narrowly defeated “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life” in the previous round. This sets us up for a potential championship match between two Mel Brooks movies.
- Blazing Saddles (#9) was no match at all for Casablanca (#1), with the stirring patriotism of “La Marseillais” easily surpassing Madeline Kahn’s Western burlesque act with a score of 41-8. “I’m Tired” was the only Brooks scene not to win its match this round.
- Finally, it was Wayne’s World (#2) that emerged victorious over Beetlejuice (#10) in the battle of the Second City alumni with a final score of 33-27.
The semifinal matches are set–so let’s get voting!
