Happy Monday, folks, and welcome to the Weekly Video Games Thread!
In honor of the games I’m playing—Metroid Prime, Alan Wake, and the new favorite of the Avocado, Blue Prince—I ask you this: what are your favorite in-game documents? I’m just starting this right out the gate to be easy, and because I’m tired from the Seder, and clearly I need to try to make more concise headers. But I do think that fictional documentary evidence is a pretty interesting tool of video game design. It can give more formal literary content, it can act as clues for puzzles, it can be a reward, and it can be tied to other mechanics or features. So what are your favorite examples, your favorite uses, and things you’d like to see games try with how they apply the trope.
And also because the image here was one I exported before realizing that I wanted a much better image of the magnifying glass in use. So at least I’m making use of it. Anyway, what did you play this weekend?
