In which a very distinctive, very cruel, very stupid head of state with weird hair is enabled by their equally cruel and stupid but mostly interchangeable sycophants. It even has a mid-dance firing/execution! Sorry it’s not relevant to politics, though.
Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, choreographed by Christopher Wheeldon and with music by Joel McHale impersonator Joby Talbot, was co-commissioned by The Royal Ballet and the National Ballet of Canada and premiered in 2011. I revisit the Tart Adage above a lot. In addition to being very funny (on its own, but even funnier when compared to its inspiration, the Rose Adage from Sleeping Beauty), the choreography and performances are tremendous, and it contains, and I am not exaggerating, the most graceful cartwheel you will ever see in your life. Seriously, Zenaida Yanowsky, who plays the Queen, is INCREDIBLE here. Watch her face at the end; she frickin’ knows it too.
