Last week in my hurry of doing too many things at once I goofed and hit ‘publish’ instead of schedule and the post for the weekly movie thread went up about 12ish hours early. Now I am not one to shy away from my mistakes, but rather one to either embrace, celebrate or if possible profit off them and this week I intend to take inspiration from said mistake and talk about mistakes in movies.

People make mistakes and there is no way around this. Which means that when people make movies, they can also make mistakes. Movies are not shot in order, they do the scenes the best way they can to do a complete picture eventually. What this means in editing and creating a final product is that things can get missed. It could be simple stuff like an article of clothing like a hat falls down a chasm but is present in the next scene, or maybe a dead character returns for some scenes. The fact that movie mistakes are inevitable does not mean we can’t enjoy them, they are a part of film in a way that I doubt will ever go away completely. And I am not making fun here. It can be endearing to notice something and giggle at it, it can humanize and provide a form of relief, we don’t have to laugh and point every time.

So it is in this spirit I humbly ask this week what is your favourite movie mistake? And again I reiterate, this is not meant to make fun or drag a movie down, but rather something that just makes you giggle a bit internally (or externally). For me it is in the movie The Miami Connection, possibly due to recency bias since I just watched it for the first time on Friday (review to follow in the comments), but during the final fight scene 2/5 band members fight ninjas in the park and either a couple of guys with film equipment are hanging out in the background of a few shots or that movie made a mistake. The earnest nature of that movie combined with this mistake (well mistakes, it happens multiple times) made me giggle ever so slightly. It was fun to pick up on and added to the other fun I was having watching this thing.
