Picture it: Japan. 1971. K-Tel Records releases Superstars of the 70s. They had less than two years to gather superstars of this brand-new decade, which is why I’m sure that 55% of the songs are from the 60s, going back as far as 1963.
I hadn’t addressed this yet in these threads, but this is why I love these K-Tel comps. They are kind of a snapshot in time of what was even marginally popular, and they cranked out so many that a lot of forgotten songs end up here. There are 40 songs here (across two LPs), and I only know half of them.
This compilation features Three Dog Night, James Gang, The Animals, Pink Floyd, and Glen Campell (!) among many others. Check out Shocking Blue’s “Never Marry A Railroad Man” below.
