Jeopardy! recap for Wed., Apr. 9

Here are today’s contestants:

  • Andrew Hayes, a law student originally from Tupelo, Mississippi;
  • Courtney Martin, a public defender originally from Cedarburg, Wisconsin; and
  • Mike Dawson, a technology manager from Portland, Oregon. Mike is a three-day champ with winnings of $57,000.

Jeopardy!

STATE FACTS // A 2000-ERA MALL RAT // BIBLICAL ART // IN THE 3 “G” NETWORK // SPECIFIC POTPOURRI // CLICKBAIT GOES TO THE MOVIES

DD1 – $1,000 – STATE FACTS – During the Civil War more battles were fought in these 2 neighboring states than in any other (Mike lost $4,400 on a true DD.)

Scores at first break: Mike $0, Courtney $2,200, Andrew $2,400.

Scores entering DJ: Mike $2,000, Courtney $2,600, Andrew $5,800.

Double Jeopardy!

AUTHORS’ APPEARANCES // LONG SONG TITLES // OUR GREEN PLANET // 11-LETTER WORDS // PAST, THE DUCHY // ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE

DD2 – $2,000 – OUR GREEN PLANET – With stumps 10 feet across, these trees were “the redwoods of the East” until a fungus nearly eradicated them in the 1900s (Andrew dropped $1,000 from his score of $9,000 vs. $2,000 for Mike.)

DD3 – $2,000 – 11-LETTER WORDS – A term for Nicaraguan rebels led Stephen Fried to coin this word for a couture designer or a supermodel superfan (Andrew added $2,000 to his total of $11,600 vs. $3,800 for Courtney.)

Andrew found both DDs in DJ and didn’t make much on them, but it didn’t matter as he dominated the round and sailed into FJ at $25,200 vs. $4,200 for Courtney and $2,400 for Mike.

Final Jeopardy!

AROUND THE WORLD – An online article about this landmark said, “The stones themselves look like they are crying” & mentioned “Tears of… pain, hope & joy”

Only Courtney was correct on FJ. Andrew bet $0 to win with $25,200.

Final scores: Mike $2, Courtney $4,801, Andrew $25,200.

Triple Stumper of the day: In 11-LETTER WORDS, no one knew that a tonometer & a retinoscope are tools used by an optometrist.

Wagering strategy: Andrew made small wagers on both DDs he found with solid leads, and bet nothing on FJ despite having enough cushion to potentially wager over $15k. It will be interesting to see if this wagering approach continues.

Ken’s Korner: After introducing the last two categories in DJ, Ken said “Deep cut”. Is it, though? “Pass the Dutchie” was a no. 1 hit in many countries and made the U.S. top 10.

Correct Qs: DD1 – What are Virginia and Tennessee? DD2 – What is chestnut? DD3 – What is fashionista? FJ – What is the Wailing Wall (Western Wall)?
