Happy Monday, folks! Welcome to the Weekly Video Games Thread!
Since January, I’ve been working on (and regularly discussing) a three-month project to explore as much of Game Pass as I reasonably good. The last day of this project is today, which is why I am writing this at 1 AM instead of a reasonable time. My Friend Peppa Pig took me longer than it should an adult by several hours, which is to say “four hours.”
Anyway, one of the main games I focused on was Minecraft, spending a month and a half slowly, inconsistently creating a 3D map of the Kanto and Johto regions from the Pokémon series. Well, it’s done! Here’s what it looks like. Actually, the same image is in the article, along with a few others that show close-ups. Look, this isn’t perfect. The planning went awry repeatedly, especially when Johto was added. Several locations, Routes, and notable features are either absent or were simply forgotten partway through. It’s ugly and could have used more interesting blocks—it was only on the second-to-last day that I realized that the dirt blocks I used to represent stone and mountain automatically grow grass, leading to a far greener landmass than I anticipated. At the same time, I’m abundantly proud of it, which is why I’m happy to use the image twice. If you look close, you can see things like glass panes for Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres, actual waterfalls for Tohjo Falls, Blackthorn City, and Route 47, and speciality pieces like fences for Route 1.
This is me at full bragging mode. But it’s not on me to do this alone! Here’s the prompt: brag about something you created in a game, something you worked on and cultivated. Simulation games of all sorts are welcome; people have certainly used this space to show off their Animal Crossing islands and Stardew Valley farms. And if you don’t have images, you can just describe it. The sensation of creating and experimenting and finalizing.
And, of course, what did you play this weekend? I actually need to stop writing this so I can sleep and go back to playing. If I can sleep.
