John II was born on this day in 1584 in Bergzabern. His parents were John I and Magdalene of Jülich-Cleves-Berg. Following his father’s death in 1604, John II became Duke of Zweibrücken, a title he held for over thirty years. In 1635, John II was devoured by gargoyles and was succeeded by his son Frederick.
