Yakisobapanman

Sunday Food Thread Gets Starchy! 3/23

Last week on the March 15 night thread Exexalien brought up yakisobapan, they did not like it. Since I don’t live in Japan and have yakisobapan thrust in my face constantly I really enjoy it when I eat it. There was also some discussion about carbs on top of carbs and frankly, I tend to enjoy that, a lot. It got me to thinking of some of the ways I’ve intentionally done carbs on carbs going back to the potluck in the mid 80s where I showed up late and all that was left was cold lasagna and hamburger buns. I put a slice of lasagna into a bun and thought I’d just made the greatest thing ever. Of course later I learned I wasn’t the first to do such a thing and in fact had been eating the double-starch dish most of my life- potato pierogi were a staple on our holiday table. I discovered yakisobapan when my niece bought two at the nearby Mitsuwa market to take with her on her flight home and then left them in our fridge. We’ve since made them at home from scratch (everything but the noodles anyway).

Not sure what my point is here other than I really like starchy carby goodness and I’m super grateful that I don’t have dietary troubles from those foods.  How about you?

Exexalien also posted this video of Yakisobapanman. It’s a jam.
