I threatened Snow White content yesterday, and boy howdy am I about to deliver. 1987 was the fiftieth anniversary of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and Disney predictably capitalized on it with a theatrical re-release, a new parade, and a Wonderful World of Disney special, among other things. But tonight, I wanted to focus on one aspect of that celebration…
Singin’, Dancin’, Heigh Ho! was an elaborate live show performed at the Videopolis stage in Disneyland throughout 1987 to celebrate the movie’s anniversary, and it can be best described as an extremely eighties fever dream. Extended jazz dance section? Check. The Evil Queen singing a rock song that wasn’t in the movie? Check. A live horse? Check. A dwarf kick line? You better believe that’s a check. Disney was so confident in this show that they performed it at Radio City Music Hall and filmed that performance for the Disney Channel. That recording finally surfaced again a few months ago, and was uploaded to YouTube.
If you’re really curious, and I know you all are, here’s the show as performed at Disneyland. It’s largely identical, but we are nothing if not completionists here at The Avocado.
Have fun posting!
