Happy Monday, folks, and welcome to the Weekly Video Games Thread!
Let’s keep it short this time. Last week I played the incredible Inscryption, a horror card game with too many twists to disclose in one header. What I wanna focus on is the card game itself. It’s brutal and aesthetically scary; this is a horror game in the woods, with evil trappers and hunters, so you introduce cards to the table by sacrificing your own cards. This leads to incredibly satisfying gameplay where you’re constantly debating the value or what you have in the deck. Of course, the card designs are also top tier—not Balatro level, but like, what the hell is, right? There’s just an energy and elegance to the whole thing, so much so that I’m not surprised to hear that there are fans who have tried recreating it. The card part, hopefully not the abduction and bloodletting aspects.
Anyway, here’s your prompt: do you have a favorite fictional card game from a game? What is it, why do ya like it, and how important was it to the rest of the game? And, of course, what did you play this weekend?
