- Rachael Schwartz, a scientist from Berkeley, California; and
- Emily Sands, a benefits consultant from Chanhassen, Minnesota.
Jeopardy!
AUTHORS NOT AUTHORING // LET’S PLAY SPORTS // CLASSICAL MUSIC // LIQUOR IS QUICKER // LACK OF ENERGY // I’M “DRAGON” TODAY
DD1 – 600 – I’M “DRAGON” TODAY – This book’s title character is “Armansky’s star researcher… a pale, anorexic young woman who had hair as short as a fuse” (Rachael added 1,000.)
Scores at first break: Emily 2,000, Rachael 2,400, Jonathan 2,400.
Scores entering DJ: Emily 2,200, Rachael 3,200, Jonathan 2,800.
Double Jeopardy!
THE ABCs OF ARCHITECTURE // BROADWAY // RECEDING HEIR-LINES // TOUGH VOCAB // THE ELEMENTS // ISLAND MOUNTAINS
DD2 – 1,600 – THE ELEMENTS – The Og of elements is oganesson–though we don’t know for sure it’s a gas, it’s part of group 18, this septet (Emily doubled to 4,400.)
DD3 – 1,200 – RECEDING HEIR-LINES – This heir, a valuable pawn after his mom & dad got the guillotine in 1793, was determined to have died in a prison (Jonathan added 2,400.)
Scores entering FJ: Emily 14,000, Rachael 6,000, Jonathan 12,400.
Final Jeopardy!
THE ANCIENTS SPEAK – He wrote, “I must make the founder of lovely & famous Athens the counterpart … to the father of … glorious Rome”
Everyone was incorrect on FJ. Emily wagered 0 to advance with 14,000.
Final scores: Emily 14,000, Rachael 1,000, Jonathan 12,001.
Wagering strategy: This was the ideal situation for a 0 wager from the lead by Emily. Jonathan had just more than double of Rachael’s score, so if he wanted to shut her out, he would have to make a bet small enough that he couldn’t pass Emily with a correct response. Given that Emily knew Johathan was an experienced, winning player, she made the right read about how he would bet.
Triple Stumper of the day: For a top-row clue, no one guessed the author named Arthur who was also a knight was Arthur Conan Doyle.
Correct Qs: DD1 – What is “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”? DD2 – What are the noble gases? DD3 – Who was Louis XVII? FJ – Who was Plutarch?
