I signed up for the wrong OT. I meant to sign up specifically for George Washington’s birthday (which isn’t even a federal holiday anymore), and picked President’s Day instead. Technically, I guess that would’ve worked too, but I digress. The point is I was without a clue what to do with this, so I went to the always wholesome topic of Sonic the Hedgehog.

And somehow I stumbled upon…this. I simply searched “Sonic the Hedgehog Game Gear Commercial” on YouTube, and found the last thing I was expecting: a fucking talking cow. What do cows have to do with Sonic? Are there some iconic cow characters in some of the more obscure games that I’m not aware of? Or maybe cows are just more skilled at playing the Game Gear than I may have initially given them credit for.

For whatever reason, the Game Gear wasn’t nearly as successful for Sega as the Game Boy had been for Nintendo. Some blame a poor library of titles. Some blame the limitations of the system (even though it was in color, unlike the Game Boy at the time). Personally, I blame this cow. As a famous Simpson once warned, you should never have one of them.
